This week I talked with Brad Wolfe, a musician who spent his whole life afraid of death, and with EJ and Tarah Kerwin, two therapists who were sure they'd already done the work.

This week, both conversations had me wondering the same thing.

How much of what we call love is really just control wearing a softer face. Brad couldn't save the girl he loved, and EJ couldn't make Tarah feel safe by trying harder, and both of them found something bigger the moment they stopped trying to fix it and just stayed in the room. I'd like to think I'd have that kind of steadiness. Some days I'm not so sure.

"Tarah, if you're not happy with me, if this doesn't work, that's okay. I just want you to be happy."

EJ Kerwin

If something in that landed, here's where to go:

BRAD WOLFE

on facing the thing you fear most, and turning grief into something worth hearing

TARAH & EJ KERWIN

on safety, surrender, and the freedom on the other side of letting go

Until next time, Matt
