This week, I talked with a filmmaker who lost his best friend, and a woman who spent most of her life arguing with a voice she couldn't explain.

Both conversations had me wondering the same thing.

How do you trust something you can't prove? Jan kept asking his friend how to finish the film they started, then followed whatever answer came, not really sure where it came from. Kate spent decades trying to convince herself the knowing wasn't real, right up until the day it moved her daughter out of harm's way. I don't have a clean answer for either of them. But I keep thinking about how much of my own life I've spent talking myself out of things I already knew.

If something in that landed, here's where to go:

KATE SAINT CLAIR

on fighting the thing she was born to do, and what finally made her stop running from it.

JAN BECKER

on grieving a best friend by finishing the film they started together, and the year he spent editing with his friend's face on the screen

Until next time, Matt
