The Bike Ride That Changed Everything
And what Andrew Lang heard when the world finally went quiet

Hey friend,
This one hit me right in the chest — in that good, quiet way that makes you sit back for a second.
Andrew Lang showed up on the podcast with a story I’ve heard versions of in so many different forms… but never quite like this. He was juggling more than most people would even consider — teaching full time, leading his school’s high school division, acting as a union rep, holding trauma for students, navigating his own relationship. It was too much. But he kept going. Until one night, he just stood up, walked out the front door, and got on a bike.

“Maybe I don’t have to fix everything.”
That one line stuck with me. Because how many of us are still operating like fixing everything is our job?
Here’s what stayed with me:
Sometimes we need to explode in order to see clearly.
Gentleness with ourselves might be the real revolution.
The body often knows long before the brain does.
Starting over doesn’t always mean quitting everything — just giving yourself permission to move differently.
Andrew didn’t come with a formula. He came with honesty. And in that honesty, I think there’s a little permission for all of us — to let go, to stop holding the world, to take the next halting step.

If this resonates — or reminds you of your own version of standing up and walking out the door — I’d love to hear about it.
Talk soon,
Matt
PS: During a recent long weekend trip, I created a short-form podcast, “It’s Okay If…” Each episode is under three minutes long and provides a permission slip to simply be human. I’d be honored if you subscribed to the show; the first three episodes will be released at noon on May 21.
