When You Know, You Know

Danny Suede felt it in his gut — and he listened.

I had a lot of questions for Danny Suede when we first connected. Mostly because I couldn’t imagine having the clarity and conviction he had at thirteen years old. That’s when he decided school wasn’t working for him. Not in a “skipping class” kind of way — but in a “this isn’t my path and I know it in my bones” kind of way.

“You could try to send me back. But you’d have to chain me to the desk.”

That’s what he told his mom after walking out of class. And instead of forcing him back into the system, she listened. That one choice — that one line in the sand — changed everything. It led Danny to create his own version of structure, build a routine rooted in creativity, and eventually start making music, visuals, and a lifestyle that feels more his than anything else ever did.

Some people see the signs and stop. Danny saw the signs and kept going anyway.

A few takeaways from our conversation:

  • The “right” path is often invisible until you're already walking it.

  • Routine and freedom aren’t opposites — they can support each other.

  • Art can be medicine when your default is sadness or anxiety.

  • Trusting your gut might not lead to comfort, but it can lead to clarity.

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to leave the expected path and actually make it work, this one’s for you.

And hey — I’d love to know:

Have you ever made a choice that didn’t make sense at the time, but later changed your life?

Hit reply and tell me.

Until next time,
Matt

PS: During a recent long weekend trip, I created a short-form podcast, “It’s Okay If…” Each episode is under three minutes long and provides a permission slip to simply be human. I’d be honored if you subscribed to the show. New episodes are released every Wednesday at noon ET.
